The Gospel according to Mark

The shortest and probably the earliest of the four. Mark moves fast — one thing happens, then immediately the next.

1. 1 The Beginning of Jesus’s Work in Galilee John the Baptizer prepares the way; Jesus is baptized, tested, and begins to call disciples and heal.
2. 2 Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man and Faces Questions About Forgiveness and the Sabbath Jesus forgives sins, eats with outcasts, and redefines the Sabbath.
3. 3 A Withered Hand, a Growing Storm, and a New Family Jesus heals on the Sabbath, names twelve, and redefines family.
4. 4 Stories of the Kingdom Jesus teaches in parables, then shows his power over the sea.
5. 5 A Man with Many Demons and a Dead Girl Raised Jesus frees a tormented man, then heals a woman and a child.
6. 6 A Prophet Without Honor Jesus is rejected at home, sends out the Twelve, and feeds thousands.
7. 7 What Truly Makes a Person Unclean Religious leaders challenge Jesus over hand-washing traditions, and a foreign woman shows remarkable faith.
8. 8 Feeding four thousand in the desert Jesus feeds another crowd, heals a blind man, and asks who he is.
9. 9 The Transfiguration and a Boy Freed from a Mute Spirit Jesus shows his glory, then drives out a demon his disciples couldn’t.

13. 13 The Temple’s Doom and the End of the Age Jesus foretells the temple’s fall and the great trouble to come.
14. 14 The Plot to Kill Jesus The Passover draws near, and the leaders scheme — but a woman anoints him first.
15. 15 Jesus Before Pilate, Mocked, Crucified, and Buried The council hands Jesus to Pilate; he is condemned, mocked, and killed.
16. 16 The Empty Tomb Three women come to anoint a body — and find the stone already rolled away.
